The Memorial Service

The Memorial Service, scheduled for the last day of the Convention, will be held at the Dakar Memorial in Haifa.
The Submarine Dakar was on its way  from Portsmouth U.K., to Haifa, when contact with the boat was lost on January 25th 1968. Extensive searches were conducted but on February 2nd 1968 she was declared lost with all hands.
Subsequent underwater searches were done and in May 1999 Dakar’s wreck was found on the bottom of the Mediterranean at a depth of 3000 meters. The forward part of the fin was raised and placed at the entrance to the Naval Museum in Haifa as a Memorial to all Israeli Submariners lost during their service.
